Jalen Giovanni Jones is a Black and Filipino writer, journalist, Emmy Award-winning producer, and screenwriter. His mission is to bring nuance and radical empathy to how audiences understand popular culture, identity, entertainment, and each other. Core to all of his work is uplifting the underrepresented narratives, artists, and storytellers of the world.
As a freelance writer, Jalen's stories, interviews, and social media work aims to bring a sense of community and clarity for readers, while striving to inspire intellectual curiosity. Jalen is also the host of the READ 4 CHANGE reading series at All Power Books in Los Angeles, and is a staff writer/editor for Mixed Asian Media — the leading outlet for reporting on mixed Asian identity.
In addition to his journalism and organizing work, his creative writing can be found in journals such as Callaloo, Foglifter, and Electric Literature. Winner of the Ruth Elizabeth McClain Cassidy Award for Screenwriting, a Kimbilio for Black Fiction fellow, and a fellow of the 2026 Gold House Journalism Accelerator, he is at work on a novel and screenplays centering Blasian identity.
Formerly, Jalen directed the Delta Mouth Literary Festival, was the Social Media Editor for Electric Literature, and served as The Southern Review's Editorial Assistant.
